If you’ve ever unwrapped one of our Bloody Mary hampers and thought, “Blimey, that’s good,” chances are you’ve got Florence to thank. Founder of The Pickle House and master of all things punchy, peppery and pickled, she’s the brains (and tastebuds) behind the award-winning Spiced Tomato Mix we proudly include in our hampers.
From Hackney Kitchens to High-End Hampers
Florence is half-French, half-English, and a HUGE pickle fan. “I’ve always loved them,” she says. “From the humble McDonald’s gherkin to the tiny Maille cornichons you can only seem to find in France.” Her love of savoury flavours turned to inspiration on a trip to New York in her twenties, where she first tried a Pickleback, a shot of whiskey chased with pickle juice. Naturally, she came home and started experimenting with her own recipes in her Hackney flat.
What began with six bottles and sales to a few local bars quickly grew into something far bigger: The Pickle House.
Bloody Brilliant Inspiration
The big moment came back in 2014 during a late-night cocktail session at Hawksmoor, where Florence and the bar team discovered just how game-changing her Pickle Juice was in a Bloody Mary. The mix of savoury, spicy and umami flavours took the classic brunch cocktail to a whole new level, and a new product was born.
Since then, The Pickle House has gone from local legend to national favourite, now stocked in Waitrose, served on Virgin Atlantic, and featured on menus at The Dorchester, The Arts Club, and beyond.
From Farm to Bottle
Production started and continues today on Florence’s grandparents’ farm in Suffolk, where her small team of 4 hand-bottles each batch using carefully sourced ingredients: British horseradish, vegan Worcestershire sauce, and tomatoes from the Arrabida region of Portugal, where the sun-ripened flavour is second to none.
And it’s not just about bold flavours, The Pickle House is also a proud B Corp, committed to sustainability, transparency, and doing good through business.
